CHE COS'E' IL PILATES

Il Pilates è un metodo di allenamento completo, mirato ad aumentare forza, elasticità, resistenza e concentrazione, con lo scopo di ottenere una piena padronanza del proprio corpo. La struttura di questo metodo richiede concentrazione mentale, un processo che costringe i muscoli a reagire più velocemente all’allenamento. Invece di eseguire esercizi ripetitivi e monotoni, in questo caso si ripete un numero limitato di movimenti cercando di perfezionarli nel minimo dettaglio. Il Pilates infatti, non lavora sulla quantità, ma sulla qualità dei movimenti. L’efficacia di questo metodo si basa sull’applicazione di sei principi fondamentali: concentrazione, controllo, accentramento, precisione, respirazione e fluidità. Ogni esercizio è studiato per avere in sé tutti questi elementi. Se durante l’esecuzione sarai in grado di applicarli con coscienza, l’allenamento darà i suoi frutti creando corpi armoniosi, forti, tonici e migliorando nettamente il benessere psicofisico della persona.

COME NASCE E CHI HA INVENTATO IL PILATES?

L’inventore di questo metodo fu Joseph Pilates, imprenditore tedesco la cui infanzia fu segnata da patologie che resero il suo corpo debole e fiacco. La sua tenacia e la voglia di migliorarsi lo spinsero a studiare il corpo e il movimento umano, riuscendo a creare un sistema di esercizi davvero unico che gli permise di avere un corpo totalmente nuovo. Traendo ispirazione dalle tecniche di allenamento degli antichi greci e romani e contaminandole con le filosofie orientali, Pilates riuscì ad unire la concentrazione mentale e la respirazione dello yoga con la ginnastica. Dando così vita a qualcosa di unico.  Da questa fusione culturale nacque il metodo Pilates, inizialmente chiamato “Contrology”, l’arte del controllo, il cui nome richiamava l’importanza del controllo della mente sul corpo e viceversa.

Il Pilates nasce infatti come una ginnastica in grado di condizionare contemporaneamente corpo e mente attraverso centinaia di esercizi di allungamento e rinforzo muscolare abbinati a una corretta respirazione. Questi esercizi sono stati suddivisi in due categorie. Gli esercizi a corpo libero sul materassino, rientrano nella categoria del Pilates Matwork e gli esercizi eseguiti con macchinari speciali per il Pilates.

PERCHE’ FARE PILATES? A COSA SERVE?

Se vuoi migliorare la tua forma fisica incrementando il tuo senso di benessere, il Pilates è uno dei pochi metodi di allenamento che lavora in maniera globale sul corpo senza causare eccessivi stress o sovraccarichi. Questo tipo di ginnastica ricerca la perfezione e la fluidità del movimento lavorando con coscienza su ogni distretto muscolare. Questa continua ricerca della perfezione ti aiuterà a conoscere meglio il tuo corpo e ad utilizzarlo nella maniera più corretta. Ogni esercizio ti permetterà di tonificare e allo stesso tempo allungare i muscoli. Mentre la respirazione ti aiuterà a eseguire i movimenti mantenendo la concentrazione e la mente lucida.

Il Pilates ha una moltitudine di benefici sulla sfera fisica e mentale della persona. Grazie al lavoro sinergico di rafforzamento e allungamento, questo metodo permette una crescita muscolare armoniosa, ideale per mantenere il corpo tonico e la pelle elastica. E’ un attività ottima per chi soffre di mal di schiena e di rigidità della colonna vertebrale, grazie al lavoro di allineamento e potenziamento dei muscoli posturali. Gran parte degli esercizi di questo metodo infatti, lavorano sulla flessibilità e l’allungamento della colonna vertebrale, correggendo eventuali squilibri muscolari o posture scorrette. 

Altrettanto importante è il lavoro sulla parete addominale per migliorare la stabilità e l’equilibrio. Inoltre, se affiancato a un’attività di tipo aerobico come la corsa o la camminata veloce, grazie al lavoro profondo sulla parete addominale, dà un grandissimo contributo nell’eliminazione del grasso in eccesso sulla pancia. Ma il Pilates fa bene anche alla mente, una respirazione fluida e profonda infatti, permette di svuotare la mente dalle preoccupazioni, alleviare le tensioni muscolari e migliorare la concentrazione.

QUALI MUSCOLI SVILUPPA?

Questo metodo lavora sullo sviluppo della muscolatura profonda, con particolare attenzione a quella che il Pilates chiama “Powerhouse”, ovvero il nostro centro di forza, meglio conosciuto come “Core”. Questa parte del corpo comprende la parete addominale, il pavimento pelvico, gli adduttori, la zona lombare e i glutei. Il lavoro di potenziamento e allungamento coinvolge ogni singolo muscolo, dalla testa alle dita dei piedi. Inoltre, il peculiare lavoro posturale permette di rafforzare i cosiddetti muscoli antigravitazionali, necessari per mantenere una buona postura eretta.

CHI PUO’ FARE PILATES?

Il Pilates a partire dai 9 anni con le giuste indicazioni può essere praticato da tutti. E’ adatto sia per le persone che conducono uno stile di vita sedentario, sia per chi ha sempre praticato attività fisica. E’ inoltre consigliata come attività complementare a chi pratica sport come la corsa, utile per evitare contratture grazie all’intenso lavoro di stretching. Questo metodo è idoneo anche per le donne in gravidanza, per prevenire un eccessivo aumento di peso, gonfiori alle estremità e dolori alla schiena. E’ estremamente consigliato anche nel periodo post-parto per accelerare il processo di recupero della forma fisica. Il metodo Pilates se somministrato con consapevolezza non ha controindicazioni. Solo in caso di gravi patologie alla schiena, il protocollo di allenamento deve essere modificato secondo le esigenze specifiche.

COSA SERVE PER FARE PILATES?

Per praticare il metodo Pilates Matwork, ovvero il lavoro a corpo libero, non ti servirà altro che un comodo tappetino. A CHE ORA DEL GIORNO FARE PILATES?

Il miglior momento della giornata in cui svolgere una seduta di Pilates è sicuramente quando si ha a disposizione un’oretta di tempo in cui rilassarsi e godersi l’attività senza distrazioni. C’è chi preferisce cominciare la giornata con una bella seduta di attività fisica e chi invece ha la possibilità di svolgerla solo la sera al termine della giornata. Dal punto di vista scientifico per sfruttarne al massimo i benefici, il miglior momento per fare attività sportiva è la mattina, in quanto si è riposati e il corpo è pronto ad accogliere meglio l’allenamento. In ogni caso ciò che conta è riuscire a ritagliare un po’ di tempo della propria giornata per fare attività sportiva.

QUANTE ORE DI PILATES A SETTIMANA?

Essendo un’attività molto completa e mirata, riuscire ad inserire nella propria settimana anche una seduta di 50 minuti di Pilates può portare dei miglioramenti. Bisogna considerare però che una sola seduta a settimana non è sufficiente per avere dei risultati ottimali e in tempi relativamente brevi. Il Pilates infatti, come ogni altro tipo di attività fisica, andrebbe praticato dalle due alle tre volte a settimana per sfruttarne al massimo i benefici.

COME CAMBIA IL CORPO E IN QUANTO TEMPO SI VEDONO I RISULTATI?

Secondo Joseph Pilates già dopo dieci sedute è possibile sentire la differenza, dopo venti sedute cominciare a vedere i risultati e dopo trenta avere un corpo del tutto nuovo! 

Grazie a questo metodo, avrai la possibilità di imparare a conoscere il tuo corpo e percepire meglio le sensazioni provocate dai movimenti imparandole a gestire. Preparati a rinforzare e allungare il corpo rimanendo supina, seduta o inginocchiata, ma soprattutto lavora con rigore attivando la mente, col tempo, gli esercizi miglioreranno insieme a te!
